ABookReader

  • ABookReader is a simple but powerful eBook reader that can download content from a number of different sources, including Dropbox or a Calibre library. Key features include: •Read most unprotected text-based EPUB books •Page-based navigation for a very natural book-like experience •Opening a book will always return you to the page you were last reading •Customizable font (new in V1.1) and text size •Read in landscape (new in V1.2) or portrait mode •Night and Day modes for comfortable reading in any environment •Get easy access to your ebook files through Dropbox •Download books from any public ebook library that provides an OPDS feed (for example feedbooks.org) •Access your own personal library in conjunction with OPDS-enabled library-management software (e.g. Calibre) •Includes three classic eBooks to get you started Version 1.1 fixes all known bugs and adds support for customizing font types. If you've had technical problems with ABookReader in the past, please try again. Version 1.2 adds Dropbox support, landscape mode, new default libraries, and better error handling/reporting mechanisms The free trial version of ABookReader will allow you to read the included three eBooks and browse OPDS/Dropbox libraries, but will not allow you to actually download new books. To remove this restriction, please purchase ABookReader.

EDIT: In order for it to work with Calibre, make sure you have a STATIC IP. Then add a source, name it "Calibre", and for the IP use: HTTP://[static ip]:8080/opds. Works like a charm.

Great reader. Altough, there are some issues that could be addressed. The white/gray bottom line is really distracting in the night setting, especially in the dark. Maybe you could add the option of diasabling it, or at least darken it. Furthermore, some guide to setting up the dropbox option could be provided in the FAQ, since I am getting some error message while trying to connect to it and don't know, whether the problem is in abookreader or in some configuration of dropbox.

Very nice but for some reason it gives me an error when trying to read from the folder structure inside mu dropbox, which is kind of disappointing. I've tried everything short of reinstalling the app, nothing seems yo fix it. Kind of disappointing.

I don't like that I can't scroll back with gesture, always need to push button. No font changing, built-in theme is ridiculous. Conclusion: this needs a lot of work.

Nice, needs folowing: -bottom buttons need to go when reading, useless page space wasted there -a way to dim brightness to a custom level -text to be justified, aligned to both left and right as in any paper book. Great work so far though.

One of the few readers that can dl from a source website (paid version only). However neither day/night themes are acceptable.

Works great, integrated with both calobre and dropbox. All it lacks is automatic detection for orientation, instead of manually switching between portrait and landscape in the options.

Best book reader in the WP7 marketplace so far, and definitely worth the low price. Still needs a little bit of polishing, such as the occasional Dropbox bug where it won't open your book, and the lack of meaningful gestures being supported.

Can't connect to calibre. Can't find a good eBook reader that will either take books from an sd card or take them from calibre easy. Don't really understand odps

Doesn't show pictures. Seems faster than other apps. Has some room for improvement, but worth the price.

Now it's the best reader in the Marketplace, thanks for landscape and Dropbox support! A fullscreen mode would make it even better, and while were at it, please consider adding search and some more formats - at least txt and html, these shouldn't be too hard I think.

Love the ability to add books from my personal library. Can not wait for dropbox support.

Please add landscape support. Would also benefit from some performance improvements. Otherwise a good app.

So now that I've followed the advice I can connect saber just fine, got all my books. Only thing that would be awesome would to be to add .mobi support so I don't have to convert everything.

Works as advertised, but performance could be better, especially for turning pages. Also, please add landscape support!

Seemed alright but couldn't get it to work with my caliber opds server.

2011-01-08 01:38 PlasticSaint
No matter what I do I can't get this to recognize the content server from caliber. If it worked id be very happy since there are no other options of reading books from your own library

Crashes on all large non-English books. Totally useless past 500kb. Has potential but very disappointing so far.

best ereader option so far
Does what it should, could use a few more options and text formating, but much more useable than any others right now.
