Couch to 5K

Your pocket running coach

  • Couch to 5K is a neat app that is designed to get couch potatoes off the couch and out running. It's a clever little system designed to never strain your body out. The workout sessions in this program alternate between short periods of walking and running to get you acclimatized and slowly back into shape. After a period of 9 weeks you will be running 5km (that's' a mite more than 3 miles) flat out! What this app does for you - * Coaches you on when to run, walk, warm-up or cool-down (using voice prompts, large onscreen icons, or pulse coded vibrator alerts). * Feature a large 'time remaining' countdown timer to help keep you motivated - so can tell yourself its only so far to go. * Tells you when it is time to turn around and head for home (with voice cue and a turn home icon on screen) * Keeps track of what workouts you finished and when so it can tell you when you need to run next. * Keeps a log of your workout history with this app. * If you get a call and you have to leave the program it can start off right where you left off. Help you rediscover the pure joy of running - remember when you were six and wanted to run everywhere? You can find more help or information on this app at http://goo.gl/KJTBu If you like this app, there are a few more in this series that might interest you - Vimukti's Couch to 10K, Ease to 10K, Bridge to 10K. Look out for them on the Market place! Updates: Version 1.3 (Minor Fixes and General Stability Upgrades). Version 1.2 (New voice cues, improved music support with pauses, coded vibrator alerts, Turn-for-home notification). Version 1.1 (Improved locked screen support, runs fine when screen is locked).

Good app runs great and doesn't have to close Zune to run

Nice app. Just wish there was a choice for background, hard to see buttons and time outside in the sun.

Wife loves this app. Would love it myself if it could also provide the extra dose of willpower necessary to follow her lead. =( Would absolutely fall head over heels if would incorporate countdown times with stretching exercises too!

Very nice running app
I've only bought two apps and this is one of them. Went out for my first run today and really liked jamming to the Zune player and getting the voice prompts on when to walk/run. Sure beats having to look at a stopwatch periodically throughout the run (did that my first two times with the program). Like someone else stated, would be nice to have some other voice notification options for half way marks or other encouragement. Maybe some GPS integration to show distance traveled? All in all, this is a very nice little app.

Great app! Only request I would have is to allow some kind of playlist or media control. Well done though!

Should allow locking so I can control my music. The iPhone version was perfect. This needs work.

Nice app, first workout was good. Pushed myself on the runs and got a good sweat going by the time I got to cool down. Devs you might try and incorporating more voice in to app like half way points or positive encouragement. Kinda like having our own personal trainer :)

Great app
This app uses the time-tested approach of interval training to get you to a 5K in 9 weeks. My big complaint was the app pausing when the phone locked. One email to tech support and a new version was posted in 24 hours - works perfectly now. No issues w multi-tasking (music player, phone calls, etc.). I'm now back to a 5k in the first 7 weeks, after not running in about 5 years. Started w the iPhone app, and now finishing on this WP7 version. I really like the WP7 UI. Some tips using the program if you really haven't run before (or not in long while). First, always do the warm-up, cool-down and stretches. Second, don't try to cram in more than 3 workouts per week, as the program recommends - you'll need the recovery time. Last, push yourself a bit on the interval - uncomfortable is ok, pain is not. Thanks to the developer for responsiveness!

It doesn't work underlock, if it did it would be great. However with out that it is a failure.
